Leaving a flight without completing the last leg

Original flight booked JFK to Berlin, Germany on Iberia. There is a flight change in Madrid. How can one end this journey in Madrid and not continue to Berlin? How should the bags be checked? Would Iberia allow this upon request?

Is this a one way ticket or the last leg of your trip?

Search "hidden city" and you'll find plenty of info.

This is the second part of a "mistake fare" trip Barcelona to Rio (first part) and
JFK-Berlin that includes a flight change in Madrid.

You will be at the mercy of the JFK agent and they may or may not short check to just MAD.

Don't check any bags and just get off at Madrid

You could also just not feel well enough to travel in Madrid and have your bags pulled. The airline isn't supposed to send your luggage though it could happen leaving you SOL.
