These seem a lot more likely to work than "dress nice."

I haven't yet read the link, but I get about 95% upgrades to First by doing the following:

-Jacket and tie on while checking in.
-Smooth talk the agent while taking some urgent calls
-Slip the agent a twenty

Works like a charm.

i presume youse guyz are talkin domestic. for tatl, only upgrades i have ever seen are in congestion with a cancelled flight, or over booking.

I actually just sit up front and cover myself in a giant blanket/beach towel. If I can't see you, you can't see me and all is good. Hasn't failed me yet.

8. Give this list to everyone above you on the upgrade list. If they follow the advice, they might get kicked off the flight, thereby improving your own chances of getting that upgrade.

I've tried #1 on the list, but I made the mistake of offering a sporty, fun-loving mule. No wonder it didn't work.

well, i did read it, and tried to write in kind. i read it again, but domestic vs transoceanic does not pop out at me.

Naw, the mule works pretty well for long-haul as well.
