Ground Delay Programs

Just wanted to know what the main factors are in determining what airlines/aircraft are put on ground delay programs in NYC airspace?

Perhaps I have bad luck, but it seems anytime I am flying on a regional jet to LGA I encounter some kind of ATC delay, but when I am flying mainline I do not.

Ground Delay Programs

Keep in mind that an airline reports only mainline % delayed and also that mainline carries more pax per flight. So in the case of IRROPS, it is more convenient for the airline to cancel RJ ops as it allows mainline ops to operate on time and carry more pax per landing and takeoff slot

While destination/origination may matter as these things can be direction-oriented, it is generally the carriers which determine which flights are held when there are delays.

That will almost always be the smaller aircraft coming from a shorter distance. The more micro the hop, the greater the chance of delay or cancellation.
