Since this post is off-topic for the info desk, let's see how it does here in the TravelBuzz forum where more general travel-related topics are typically discussed.

Good luck with your scheme!

So I've booked a surprise trip from Dublin to Boston via lhr with ba.

How far can I get without telling my other half where we are going?

If I do the check in and bag drop and dublin will our boarding passes say lhr or boston? If it says lhr where do we pick up our boarding passes for boston?

I want to keep it a secret as long as possible.

Thanks in advance.

How are you going to explain to her that she needs to show her passport when she checks in at Dublin? Seems like the secret is out at that point.

Can i not show passport with him out of ear shot? He knows we are going somewhere just not where.

When we went on our honeymoon, my wife and I checked in together. I handed over tickets and passports and said to the agent "it's our honeymoon, please don't mention the final destination out loud." She looked at the tickets and then at us and said to my wife "you're going to love it there, have a nice trip!"

Cat wasn't out of the bag until we boarded our longhaul flight of 16 hours (well, actually I told her in the lounge).

Oh good idea londonelite!! That sounds like a good plan. I wasn't sure if there were any rules about not telling people

Yes basically what Yoshi said.

Don't want to surprise too early of I can keep it a secret until London. So wasn't sure if he needs to be beside me at check in gate or not.

Yes, I believe he will need to be with you at the check-in counter. The agent will need to see him in person as he/she checks his passport. You are flying to the USA after all, and they will be very security conscious.

OK so I'll just ask not to tell and hope for best!

Good luck with your plan! I did something similar once. It worked out very well.

You might want to check, and perhaps post in, FT's New England thread for ideas.

(And you have to at least tell him what climate to expect where you're going. "A lot like Dublin, but perhaps warmer during the day" is close enough.)

He doesn't pack for himself anyway ha ha!

It's end of March start of April we going so I'm expecting it to be chilly :)

Indeed. Generally cooler than Dublin that time of year, but quite variable. (Somehow I got the idea that this trip would be during the summer. Don't know why. You didn't say that.)

I don't know if this is still possible, but ages ago on the programme Airport which followed EasyJet, a stag do blindfolded the guy getting married, and put builders ear protecters on him, the checkin lady just peeled up the blindfold to see his eyes. Maybe you could do this?

As to the passport issue, you can always tell him the Brits require it now for air travel within the CTA. Who knows, given the paranoia the Daily Hate stirs up about immigration in the UK, it might even be true come next March.
