Passport lamination- is it a problem?
Hi all
We're leaving on a trip to Turkey in 10 days' time from India. We have Indian passports, which have two laminated personal data sides, the front one with the photo, name, passport no etc, and the back one, with info such as parents' names and old passport number. Now, my mother's current passport is stapled to her old passport, as in new passport's back page is stapled to old passport's first page. This in itself is not a problem and is common. But one of the staple pins seems to have a hole than what I'm comfortable with, on the last page of the new passport. It's still very small, and not peeling off, but it seems to have caused a break in the cover. Is there any problem? Any personal experience? Thanks (I'll see if I can post some photos later) |

Thanks Tchiowa!

I forgot my passport in my pocket once when I washed my jeans in Australia. It looked pretty awful. When I got back to the US I asked the customs guy if I should get a new one, and he said that US customs wouldn't care (presumably because they can look up detailed info on me) but other countries' passport control would likely give me a hard time for it.

How it looks will likely not be important. If the hole or other features obscure important data, it may be a problem. As others note, the condition itself should not matter.

That laminated last page is pretty much unique to India. Other immigration officials won't even look at it, they don't attach any relevance to the data.

Thanks guys!
Guess it's fine now- no info is being obscured. |
