Using Google Flights to book a flight
I am travelling from HYD-CAK and I used Google flights to select the itinerary.I want to book on united.com,but I am having few doubts.
http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psvxtg6nsc.png 1.Does my baggage get checked in till Akron? since I will be booking all the flights on the same ticket but it involves three different airlines(Jet airways,Lufthansa,United). 2.If I want to check-in online do I need to visit the website of the different airlines(in my case jet airways,Lufthansa and United) or just United.com. 3.I am vegetarian and I don't see any option to give my meal preference during the booking process.Do I need to contact United after booking? Thank you. |
For 1, I think your luggage will check thru to ORD. At ORD, you will have to collect your luggage, go thru custom, and then recheck it I think.

Hi SashreekR73,
From your other thread, I see that you're heading for the Cleveland area to further your studies. Since you specified CLE in the other thread and are now aiming for CAK (Canton-Akron Airport), I'm guessing you'll be at Kent State University. KSU is about half an hour's drive from CAK but only about 50 minutes from CLE. Because very few flights serve CAK, your proposed reservation has a six hour layover at ORD. You might want to fly to CLE instead. Do arrange ground transportation in advance, though. Regarding check-in, you'll get instructions for that when you get your ticket. You should be able to request vegetarian meals when you book the reservation. If you haven't already done so, you should open a MileagePlus account with United.com. This will allow you to earn frequent-flyer miles for this long trip. It also provides you a place to set up a profile that includes your meal preference. Best of luck! [EDIT] I forgot to mention that I second another poster's advice. In the US (and Canada and the UK), you have questions, not doubts. After reading a fair bit of Inglish in forums, I eventually learned to read "a doubt" as "a question", but it took me a while to figure that out. :) |

I'd also recommend looking into CLE flights instead of CAK. You should be able to shorten your total travel time considerably while also likely paying less for your ticket. A quick search of HYD-CLE flights leaving 07/25 shows a few options that are a few hundred dollars less than CAK while also avoiding extremely long layovers.

Using Google Flights to book a flight
For meals, you should be able to specify at booking. But either way, I always call each of the individual airlines in the reservation and ensure that they have the proper request in the system. Why? On an hours long flight, you want to make sure they have something that meets your dietary requirements. If they don't have enough veg meals, that is going to be a looooong flight if you are hungry.
Flights within and to/from India shouldn't be a problem - they always have a veggie meal as one of the main options. But ex-Germany to the U.S. may not, so you want to be sure you are covered there. ORD-CAK is a short flight and won't even serve a bag of pretzels, so make sure if you need to eat something, grab something at ORD first or to bring on board. |
Thank you all for your advise.I will book HYD-CLE instead of Akron.
