It is really going to depend on the TSO who looks at it as it goes through the X-ray. I brought a griddle through once. No issue. Good luck.

An important practical question is whether you should "declare" the pan (take it out of your carryon and provide it on its own for screening) versus leave it in your carryon and see if TSA decides to fixate upon it. It will show up as a large metal object inside a carryon, and not an object that they commonly see.

Personally, whenever I have anything that I feel looks the least bit suspicious (in an unusual way), I provide it on its own for screening. I figure, perhaps incorrectly, that TSA is less likely to decide that a borderline object is dangerous if it doesn't appear to them that I'm "hiding" it.

Also, a lone object separated from everything else is unlikely to trigger a full bag check. However, if they find something in a carryon, then they'll often go through the entire carryon, especially for something like a pan that could be blocking something else.

I travel with a small plastic bag of coins (for tolls, among other reasons). I used to keep it in my carryon for screening, but an annoying fraction of the time, TSA would decide it was suspicious because "the metal could be hiding something else in my carryon", and they would screen my carryon multiple times or even go through the entire carryon by hand. Now I simply provide the plastic bag of coins separately for screening, and it has completely solved that problem.

If you are planning to stay at an extended stay hotel, can I assume you will be there for a while, and maybe checking baggage? Unless it is a weight/number of bags items, why would you even think of bringing a frying pan with your on board luggage? Just check it.

I've taken cast iron griddles on as carry on a few times. No issues, and they're probably more weapon capable than the average Stainless or Aluminum frying pan. In my case, my checked baggage was already at the weight limit, so in my backpack it went.

I brought a forged from one from Germany to the US once.
Security in Frankfort did not bat an eye - I will never forget TSA's reaction in BGR though: "Sir, do you always travel with a frying pan?"

Why, yes of course! You never know when you might have to fry something...

Just took a set of two frying pans in a carryon last week. Along with all sorts of household goodies and.....wait for it.....a floor lamp from Ikea, still in the box. They swabbed the floor lamp but didn't even bat an eye about the frying pans.
