I luckily have never had this happen, but I always wonder what happens to people flying the day after an accident. What if you wanted to cancel? Would you just be out of the money (but relieved to not fly the airline)?
I saw the TransAsia counter empty at the airport today. Maybe there are just no flights boarding at this time. I don't know, I didn't bother to check.

For most airlines, they would make an exception and allow refunds. Don't know about TA. I guess it would depend on the fare you purchased. If you're due to fly today and the counter is closed, you could call it a flight cancellation in which case I would think a refund is due.

I have a feeling they have other priorities right now.

It's mentioned in the thread about the accident in the Other Asian airlines forum that all of the TransAsia QTR72s have been grounded until they pass an inspection. I don't know what other aircraft are in the TransAsia fleet or what fraction of the service at your airport would use the either version of the QTR72, but this might explain the empty counter. Still, if all/most of their flights were cancelled, I would expect to see staff around trying to rebook this passengers.

Do you see TransAsia flights listed on the airport's flight monitors? What about either the TransAsia or the airport website? I would think that you should be able to view some flight status information online. If you have a real live human travel agent, you could try to call and ask that person.

Are you suggesting that the airline might have been pre-disastered?

A train crashed outside of NYC hitting an SUV killing the driver and a few people on board the train.

I don't understand people's hysteria and Chicken Little's "the sky is falling!" (no pun intended) rationale when it comes to aviation incidents.

But the oddest coincidence I know of is Allegeny Flight 737, which crashed on approach to Bradford, PA, less than two weeks after Allegheny Flight 736 crashed on approach to the same airport!

If it hasn't happened there, it probably hasn't happened.

Statistically, one would think that accidents due to pilot error could be more likely after a well publicized crash, although the overall accident rate is so low that this could be difficult to test. I've heard that drivers are more likely to have a second accident after the first one, partly because they can become worried and nervous drivers who lose confidence after the accident, although of course the effect could also be due to the first accident simply indicating that the person is not a very good driver. [I know I tend to be extra careful around cars with obvious dents and other damage.]
