One of my friends went to Brazil for the world cup last year. Notified Amex that he would be there. Card worked like a charm, however he told me that while there he got a call from Amex asking him if he is making a 4000 dollar purchase at a hardware store. Apparently his platinum card was cloned. Yikes.

The Brazil board is full of warnings of cloning. I'm already worried lol, first time going to Brazil in march!

Hey, ya never know.

I was emailed by AmEx to call them about a suspicious fraudulent purchase made with my card (it was), and I hadn't left my home city of Toronto. I suspect the number was stolen when I made a purchase at a local trade show (mobile tech set up, not a typical retail store), but, sadly, we'll probably never know.
