one more vote in the pro-flying column here

I don't need or want to be plugged into an iPad or a Nook or the IFE, I don't need or want to be nose-down in my laptop or a physical book ... about the most relaxing disconnect-from-the-world environment for me is a window seat where I can just watch the world go by for an hour or two (or four or eight) ... and yes I'll be the first to admit that the closer that window seat is to the pointy end of the plane, the nicer the flight experience generally is

I've been an airline geek since about age 5; I've been in and around the aerospace business (commercial and military) for a long time, including three years as a flight test engineer for Boeing... even though I'm nowhere near the traveler that Seat 2A is, and nowhere near the road warrior that many on this board are (I logged my 2000th flight last month, and I'm closing in on 2 million miles), I've really enjoyed most every one of 'em

and of course in many cases the flight itself is only a small part of the overall enjoyment of traveling

Do you have any status with an airline yet? Is that something that seems likely if you continue to fly at your current pace? The more you fly, the easier most airlines make it for you - from expedited check-in and screening to better seating.

The ultimate of course is International First Class on airlines like Singapore, Emirates, etc. You may find yourself wishing the flight were longer. Look up any trip reports from folks like SFO777 or Moomba for more detail. Hope you get there someday!

Happy Contrails ====================== >

I'm a diamond medallion with Delta with all the perks. I'm just sick of flying and want to go home & stay there. Plus, I'm just grumpy today. Plus, get off my lawn. :)

I went to a basketball game over the weekend where they had one of those contests where fans try to make free throws for prizes. The prize was - literally, I kid you not, I didn't think this existed anymore - one R/T ticket anywhere in the USA on Greyhound. :eek:

The clown who was selected to participate airballed the free throw, and I'm not convinced he didn't do it on purpose. I'd be afraid that if I made the free throw, I'd somehow be contractually obligated to actually take that horrifying trip.

Wonder how long a transcon would take? :confused: You'd never b*tch about United Economy Minus again...

Perhaps you've been limited to Delta's "perks", including its "esteemed" Business Elite service. But I hear ya - sometimes all the traveling is a bit much and just having two straight weeks at home is a blessing in itself.

I don't like much of anything, but you gotta have a hobby, no?
