Hot Water Bottles in Hotels?
 

Call me old fashioned and British, but I love a hot water bottle in bed.
In fact I'm sitting up in bed with one as I type this..

I travel a fair amount around Europe for work, and one thing I miss in hotels, despite how much I love the beds, is a hot water bottle in winter.

I wondered - is this something hotels ever do? It would make a turndown service mean so much more to me if the bed was warmed :D

I don't understand - do you want one to drink? Or to cuddle up with? And if it's the latter, bring your spouse and he/she would cuddle back!!

I recently bought a very cool water bottle which i put it at the base of my bed under the sheet. Great feet warmer and warm and cozy. They are great but I would not want it in an hotel though. Who knows how clean they would be....

If you want to travel to the highlands of Sri Lanka, where colonial British influence is still evident, you can get a hot water bottle placed under your sheets at The Hill Club in Nuwara Eliya.

Not every hotel in the area does this. The one I stayed at had only basic blankets and charged extra for an electric room heater. At least the shower had plentiful hot water.

Could you bring your own bottle, and then just fill it up with in-room coffee maker or tea kettle?

I definitely wouldn't want a hotel one. Someone probably had it near their privates. eew.

Quite. But, empty, it's not too difficult to bring your own. Just choose one which isn't too embarrassing if it's brought out during screening.

At the Summit hotel in Nepal it is part of the turndown service in cold months.

Yes - I definitely didn't mean a standard re-useable one for hotels, that'd be a little disgusting!

Would be nice if they did it to warm the bed - if they were going to leave it with the guest I'd think the safest and most hygenic option would be one of the microwaveable beanbags - never as good but easier and safer. It could be washed for hygiene.

Good ones have washable covers - so no hygiene issue.

You probably won't like the sheets, chairs, toilet seats and bathtubs then.

Or you could always use the liner bag from the ice bucket...unless it's already in use covering up the remote control.

It would be easier to bring your own empty water bottle and fill with hot water made in the coffee maker. That's easier to find in a standard hotel room than a microwave to heat up the bean bag.

A hotel I used to work in did this during turndown. It was a nightmare. More often than not, the bottles leaked. Then we had wet beds, and no empty rooms to put the guests in, so we had to comp their stay, and they had to sleep in a wet bed.

I know exactly what I'm sleeping on so try not to think about it. I didn't have a bath at my house for months and months after teenage step son discovered online porn and until he moved out. I knew what was going on in that bath. eek. :rolleyes:

I have a plug in electric heating pad, same idea as hot water bottle. Light and easy to transport, and far easier than trying to fill a hot water bottle. All you would need for travel is a plug adaptor.
