current USA passport turn around times
my passport is expiring soon, and i have a trip to lisbon in four months time. do i need to expedite the process? do i need to hand carry the documents to passport central?

No need to expedite. My mother just got hers done. Mailed it in on Monday, got it back on the next Friday (10 days later).
I think you need longer if you're applying for a new passport, but renewals seem to be pretty quick.
