I remember when Air Canada still planned getting the A-346, there was something said about the lower deck, but it might not have been anything more than what Lufthansa did with the lavs.

Pre-jet age, the Pan Am Boeing 377 had a small lower level lounge.

Thomas Cook also has loos downstairs on some of their aircraft - but they do have 1 loo at the back for those unable to use stairs.

What plane is this?

Wasn't someone here talking a few months ago about another Airbus that has the option to partially build out with a lower deck and that only half a dozen or so examples of it are flying with a LCC in the EU? One of the A340 variants?

Maybe someone was talking about it, but this aircraft does not exist.

Wow, I didn't know of this! Doubt it would 'fly' in the USA, given the inevitable issues for 'differently-abled' pax. Although I suppose they could receive dispensation to use the upper-class lavs?

It did, and still does, daily.

Of course, this brings up an interesting question. LH has all F seats on the upper deck of the 744. Are they able to accomodate F pax who can't walk up the stairs? They don't usually board via the upper doors. Are there any other airlines that have one class exclusively on the upper deck of a 747? I can't think of any, every other 747 operator I can think of splits a class (or 2 classes) across the main deck and upper deck.

BTW, my first post in OMNI.

No, no airline splits its first class.

Isn't everyone on a Thomas Cook flight riff raff? ;)

I meant with a US carrier. Do any do this?

No US carrier operates a 340-600.

Oh. Well in that case it definitely doesn't 'fly' in the USA.

Well, that's obviously not the reason the aircraft wasn't ordered by any US carrier, and stairs will pose problems around the entire travel experience, not just below-floor toilets!
