Where to spend New Years? Macao or Las Vegas?

I have never "celebrated" New Years outside my own little town and now I got the idea to try something else and started looking at Macao or Las Vegas.

Maybe I can get some inputs from people who have been in these cities over New Years? The group are between 21 and 24 years old.

Am I correct in my statements here?

+ Vegas
More english speakers
Cheaper (flights and accommodation)
More people in our age?
Hell of a party on New Years?

- Vegas
Cold weather compared to Macao
I've been there already. Not really negative though. Liked it!

+ Macao
Never been there. Get to see something new
Better casinos?
Close to Hong Kong

Not our age group? I get the idea that it's much more people in the age 30+ there than Vegas, correct?
Less party than in Vegas over New Years? Again, I have no idea!

Would love to get some inputs from more experienced people when it comes to celebrate New Years!

Where are you coming from? I go to Las Vegas a lot. I love Las Vegas. But I would never go there at New Years. Seems way too much of a zoo.

I go to Las Vegas two or three times a year, and have considered New Years Eve.

I've been there on Halloween and the 4th of July, but never NYE. In 2013 it was so absolutely crazy and insanely crowded on December 29 and 30 and I happily got on a plane and flew home for NYE.

Where I would love to be NYE is New York City, but I'll have to be there in spirit, because there is no way I could handle those crowds.

Unless you think $500 per night is cheap...

I went to Las Vegas once for New Years. ONCE! The prices and the crowds were just plain no fun. I go to Vegas at least 4 times a year and the times I don't go, Memorial weekend, any time in March (March madness), any time in January (CET convention) Halloween, New Years Eve, last week in August(huge retail convention).
I'm actually in Vegas now. I go during the week and pick weeks conventions have ended or there are none.

my vote is Vegas over Macao.

I normally visit Hong Kong in December and it isn't summery/great weather at that time of year

in most Asian countries NYE isn't a big party night. most people spend new years day with their families so people don't really go out on NYE.

NYE in vegas is easily the most expensive time of year for hotels. and NYE parties at the top end hotels can be pricey. Not even sure if you can use points at hotels on NYE - may be blacked out.

Macao isn't the same party/club scene that Vegas is. If you went that direction, I'd probably make it a Hong Kong trip with Macao as a side venture from there. I mean, unless you guys are just huge gamblers and looking for that as the primary focus of the trip.

We actually spent Dec 31, 1999 on the Vegas strip. Booked our hotel room at noon that day for around $150 at Treasure Island. Of course, TI isn't top-shelf Vegas, but it wasn't bad and was actually closer to the Strip "center of gravity" in 1999. It was a fun scene...glad we did it once...but no real desire to do it again.

What's your starting point for this trip? Those aren't the only two good NYE scenes in the entire world...

Two things you probably don't have to worry about are severe weather and English speakers. The weather will be adequate in both places and you'll find enough English spoken in Macau for it not to be an issue. (Plenty of English is spoken in HK, of course...)
