How to Pronounce Qatar?

I tried to both Goggle and search FlyerTalk, but there were too many items under "Qatar", so ....

Is Qatar pronounced "cutter", "ka-tar", or "kat-ar"? I have heard people pronounce it all these (and other) ways. I tried an Arabic dictionary, but just got lost.

Does it sound different than it is spelled? I had, in the past, called it "ka-tar" with emphasis on the second syllable; was I wrong?

I take the Qatar Airways ads on tv as the appropriate pronunciation.

Unfortunately, here, in Korea, even the Qatar Airways ads are in Hanmal (Korean), so might be a little different. From the above, the majority opinion seems to be something like "kutter". Thanks to all.

That would be a good clue. Or call QR customer service and listen to the prompts of an agent. In the US or UK, I've always heard them say kuh-TAR.

I say it differently to the advertisements so I am wrong. I was amazed when I heard it. It was completely different to what I thought.

Geez, Louise: call up the Qatar embassy in the US after hours and see what the messages says.

Ironically perhaps, the way it sounds there is not a perfect match for how it sounds when Qatar's emir mentions his own country by name.
