Also worth knowing if they'll tax you on that lump sum or not.

It "should" be taxed either way, which even increases the reason why he should shop the fare.

If OP is in typical ROA situation, and he is given $3000 for a full- fare coach ticket, his taxable compensation will be the $3000 plus a gross-up that he does not see, totaling an amount that, if taxed, would result in $3000 net to the employee. The gross up calculation usually incorporates his marginal tax rate. In effect, he gets $3000 tax free since the company also gives (actually "holds" for) him the taxes due. So yes, it's "tax-free" money to him, so he has every incentive to shop for the best deal.

As this is specific to finding airfare pricing by route but not to United, please follow the thread to the TravelBuzz forum. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, United and TravelBuzz.

As noted previously, you can post to be helpful as long as you give the proper attribution using our Share Results tool, which wasn't the case with your post.

Unlike other tools, our fare data is paid for from the GDSs and each search has a cost. So telling others not to sign up and pay for the service is a disservice to the paying customers and to our ability to pay for more and varied data in the future.

We don't like to spam FT with posts, however to your point, we also uniquely have a 5-day free trial for anyone to try for new users, so there is no reason for someone not to sign up for an ExpertFlyer account. ;)

unavasa, could you provide similar info for the route IAH-CEK and IAH-SVX (both via Moscow)? Would appreciate your help. I have downloaded the pro version of expertflyer and cannot figure out how to filter these out.

So that OP doesn't have to pay EF or KVS, here are the fares. OW refers to one-way fares, RT refers to round-trip fares.

Economy is cabin "E" or booking class "Y".

There you go:

[KVS Tool 7.7.5/Diamond - Fares/GOL]
Code:

HOU  Houston Metro / Hobby TX US = IAH HOU EFD [KHOU]
SVX  Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Intl RU [USSS]
R/T  01 Mar 2015 | 15 Mar 2015

Carrier    From    To    Fare      Cur            Min  Max  Fare Basis
---------  ------  ----  --------  ----  --------  ---  ---  ----------
YY        HOU    SVX      8409  USD                      YIFRT3
YY        HOU    SVX    11284  USD                      CIFRT3
YY        HOU    SVX    20868  USD                      FIFRT3

There are no YY Fares between IAH-CEK.

The information ExpertFlyer displays disagrees with KVS's info (albeit only by a couple hundred dollars in each case):

Again, KVS's results are different from EF's. This time EF is more than KVS, unlike the previous instance. The differences are also more.

ExpertFlyer uses multiple GDSs for fare information, but all are USA-based.

You'll have to ask KVS which website his app is screen scraping fare information from.
