Flying the A380.

Dont know where to post this but just wanted to say what a pleasure it is to fly in the A380. I fly a couple of times a year long haul to HKG usually on a BA 777 or 747 both good workhorses but it is like sitting next to a vacuum cleaner for 12 hours. The A380 couldnt be more different it almost feels (sounds) like it running silently Im sure I would have no problem sleeping most of the way on these. The sooner more airlines use these planes for long haul flight the better.

What class of service did u fly?

BarefootBandit Jan 27, 2014 4:25 pm

I've flown the SQ A380 in coach both upper and lower decks, in various parts of the cabin (window near wing, aisle etc) and it is the first plane I am happy to fly in where I do not find myself reaching for ear plugs. Same on the single flight I have had on the TG A380.

Seriously, any part of the plane, I'm sure the fortunate folk that get to fly in the pointy end will get an even better experience. So long as there is no cabin pressure loss... (insert witty emoticon here)

Flying the A380.

Upon takeoff I have always been impressed by how quiet the A380 is. However, it isn't far into a flight that I realize I can hear every single noise and nuance of every other passenger, and start wishing for some of the white noise found on other airplanes to mask those passenger noises.

Low level of noise is part of the reason I go out of my way to book the A380. Whatever class of travel this is a blessing.

The only downside of the A380's window seats in Y is the gap between the seat and the window. If you want to sleep against the window/wall you need at least two pillows to fill the gap.

It was in y class both times singapore & Thai . Both of these airlines have y in front of plane on lower level which helps. BA has y at the back on both levels. I agree about the gap between seat and window.

Correct ^, though with the 11 abreast soon we will see this gap filled :p

I agree. Especially if flying in a class with motorized chairs. I flew BE in an AF A380 and could hear anytime one of my near by neighbors adjusted their seats. Next time I fly on an A380, I may consider investing in a pair of Bose headphones.

I recently took my first flight on the a380, to which I connected after spending 11 hours on the 747-8i. It was my first time on both (both in J), and I have to say that I was blown away by the 747-8, while I found the a380 to be unremarkable. Yes, it's quiet, but if it's any quieter than the 747-8 or 787, the difference is negligible, and the way that LH configures its a380, the business class cabin feels more like premium economy due to the sheer volume of seats. If I'm flying coach, then I'll take the a380 over the 747-400, but I have to say that the a380 doesn't provide a remarkable experience, at least in J. I fully realize that YMMV, but for the sake of playing devil's advocate...

Have flown on the EK A380 several times and on AF once, always in Y. Have really enjoyed all if the flights. Very comfy and quiet.

As someone who can not usually sleep on planes, I was able to do so on the 747-8i and A380 with unprecedented ease compared to other large wide body aircraft. It's pretty impressive.

Took the A380 for the first time last month on Thai in F.

I was absolutely blown away by how quiet the plane was, and noises from other passengers weren't a problem (obviously given how sparse the seats were.) The air circulation was also definitely better than any other plane I've been on. It was only a 5.5 hour flight, so no chance to have a real sleep - but I know that noise definitely prevented me from sleeping on my ANA F flight.

Only thing is now once you step on any other plane, you feel the noise even more. I personally went out of my way to book my April trip on the SQ and QF A380s. Spent more miles, but more than happy to if I don't have to feel like I'm sitting next to a vacuum cleaner.
