How would I go about finding the tail number and captain's name for a previously-flown flight?

I would presume flight plans are considered public information - is there a way to pull them from FAA.gov that I can't find? Or is it going to be more laborious?

You can get routing and tail number from ACARS but the pilot info is not publicly accessible.

Flight plans are public. Personal information about the pilot(s) is not, nor should it be.

Law enforcement, the FAA, the NTSB, etc. all have the capability to get this info with good justification. I can't think of any good reason it should be made available to any random person who asks, though.

Well, why stop there then. Do you mind if I copy your license plate next time you snatch a parking spot from me or cut me off so I can look you up? Or, how about some guy wanting to get the name of my daughter after seeing her drive past him so he can track her down?

Do you want to know the full name of the conductor of the next train you ride, or the full name of the driver of the next bus you're on?

So what, exactly, justifies making a pilot's full name available to John Q Public? If you have a complaint or even a compliment about a pilot of a recent flight you were on, there are avenues you can take to provide the feedback to the right people.

I don't understand why anyone would assume that a flight plan is public info. It only matters if you're a pilot and flying a plane between the other plane's takeoff and landing. After landing, the flight plan is useless history.
