Interesting Program on Plane Crashes
The Weather Channel is airing a program called, "Why Planes Crash: Collision Course." This episode is on mid-air collisions and is interesting, not just because of the analysis, but its use of high-definition photo-real animations to show what actually happened. Scary as hell to watch, but interesting.

Sounds interesting, sort of like the "Air Emergency" and "Seconds from Disaster" series. Looking forward to catching a few episodes.

Interesting that the weather channel does this.
One of my relatives died in a mid-air collision and I don't think weather had anything to do with those planes crashing together. Did they say weather was a major factor in such incidents? Usually seems to be more attributed to miscommunication and course/navigation/timing/plan mess ups. The most recent mid-air collision I remember getting a lot of press is the one involving the Brazilian commercial carrier and an American-piloted private jet with an airline/travel journalist on board and that was unusual in that it took place so far away from an airport being used by one or the other for take-off or landing. |
None of the four crashes they covered in this episode were weather-related. It appears that the Weather Channel is branching out.

Interesting Program on Plane Crashes
Smithsonian Channel has a good show "Air Disasters" that recreates an accident, has interviews with the actual investigators and sometimes surviving passengers. The hour long show often profiles well known historical accidents.
