Travel Agent Discount Fares

I was wondering how much off the ticket you get for AD70 and AD50 fares is this 70 percent and 50 percent respectfully?

Lets say you want a First Class Ticket to Europe are you getting it for 1/2 off or are you paying the taxes? Is this the same benefits flight attendant's get when they travel and only pay the taxes.

It seems like these are unpublished fares as frequent flyer miles are not earned.

It's 50 or 70% but off full fare which is very high. Also, usually standby space. I'll defer to others here since my agent DTS were a long time ago.

They aren't unpublished or published fares, they are a discounted percentage off the normal full fare economy or business class published fares. It's more than airline staff pay and discounts do range 50-70% but these fares mean the TA is subject to being bumped without compensation if the airline overbooks and needs your seat. And no, no seat assignment, FFP/FFM may be collected and no waitlists are allowed on these fares.

The discounts don't include the taxes so the fare is 50% (or whatever) of the full fare (discounts are not usually allowed off the lower restrictive fares) plus the taxes and (usually) the fuel surcharges.

With taxes so high now, these types of tickets are not the benefit that they used to be.

IMO, they are almost worthless. I have never used one in more than 25 years in the business.

I used one once in '98 to fly NW in business YEG-HKG a week before they closed Kai Tak but not since.

I was pricing out an AD75 on AC in J class - truth be told, the cost ended up being *higher* than the special net fare deals AC was selling my agency! No miles on the ticket and the chance of being offloaded for a 'revenue passenger' (who probably paid as much, or slightly less than me!) - no thanks.

TA discounts are best left for hotels and cruises.

Have to admit I'm a bit curious why the OP was asking.

Not sure which thought came to OP first though. ;)
