I'm most surprised about how much better/more thorough the information found on FT is vs. what is being broadcast on cable news.

Which is why, as soon as I heard, I came to FT first

Anyone read that book "Outliers?" There's a whole chapter called "The Ethnic Theory of Plane Crashes."

I have vivid images in my mind of US Flight 1549 which crashed into the Hudson River, and dont remember *any* passengers in life rafts or waiting on the wings, carrying baggage. That flight was predominately domestic citizens. This was predominately international passengers.
I remember video of that event showing the FA's coming off the boat that brought them back to land & 1 of them had a purse or large tote over her shoulder. I remember very clearly thinking she wasn't paying attention to the part about leaving all carry-ons behind in case of an emergency evacuation.

I was almost able to copy my post verbatim from the BA forum when the A320 landed after losing its cowls. Many people were bringing their Duty Free bags and other bags off the plane. (Could be culture related as PAX to Scandinavia are known for their alcohol purchases).

There could be a culture difference, or it could be psychological perception of the threat. Of course, we're getting more on-the-ground photos as more people are carrying phones with cameras and are keen to 'get the shot,' which show us the extent of this happening when a plane goes down.

Cable news at its best... On CNN. Wolf Blitzer talking to "Elliott" supposedly a passenger.

"It took like 20-30 minutes for the ambulances to get there. It was pretty ridiculous".

To anyone who's ever called 911 before... it seemed like hours for an ambulance to get there when it really only took 3-5 minutes.

See, I would think she had a first aid kit or flares or some other bundle of emergency equipment she is required to attempt to deplane with. But then again, I've never been through FA school or talked to any about this so that's just what I assume.

From the SFFD Chief just now:

2 deaths

60 unaccounted for (someone correct if that was wrong)

48 transported to hospitals
