I am new to the forum (actually been following just not participating). Today in Las Vegas @ 11:00 am it was 109. The airport has had a couple of issues yesterday with arrival and departures due to the heat. Today is going to be even hotter.

It's 104 in Fresno, CA right now.

They have to pay me a lot to come out here.

We hit a high of 81 here on the Oregon coast! A real scorcher!

119 today in PHX. US RJ flights cancelled due to heat. Numerous bumps due to weight restrictions. No power at my house (on iPhone). Literally Hell on earth right now.

I'd go to a few movies tonight if I were you. Must be getting a bit warm sans AC.

Small private aircraft were not permitted to take off today in parts of Oootah today. It was 105 here in Salt Lake with another 4 days of heat. You can find me in the (sub-terrian) basement.

That's Ooootah.

I was in Yosemite yesterday. It was 104 in Yosemite Valley.

Fortunately I was spending most of the day at higher elevations, only in the low 90s off Tioga Road.

Well, Fairbanks, AK is a nice 81 degree F right now (11 PM, EDT) - had 2 90 degrees day this past week, normal high is in the mid/low 70's. Homes don't have or need AC's.

And, keep in mind - calendar is still June - not even into the real dog days of summer, yet.

For places like Vegas or Phoenix, it is at least dry desert heat & hot sun, and humidity is generally low. We're been in Sin City in mid-July with the normal daytime high of 110's - our rental car parked in the indoor garage registered an interior temperature of 140 degree - the Strip was like a ghost town at mid-day.

It is going to be a long summer - back at home, we had a night-time transformer blowout earlier this week around the corner from us and it wasn't even hot.

Global warming - nah :D

Dry dessert? Is that with no chocolate sauce? ;)

On the last 122 day I worked outdoors all day long. Hot as hell, but as long as you're hydrated, and in good health, it's ok.

I even went out today in the mid day sun and did a bit of work on my car. In ten minute increments. :)

It's normal summer weather

A quick search shows weather pretty normal in the SW. In 1990, temp reached 122F in Phoenix. The avg high temp there in June is 106F. Las Vegas, Arizona, Death Valley are ALWAYS hot in the summer, I'm not sure what all the hubbub is about.

They'd have to pay me a lot to go to Fresno, CA anytime of the year.

For some areas like Phoenix you well be correct. But for other regions not so much. For instance, in SLC we average three days per summer over 100 degrees. This is now our 6th day and 5th in a row of 100+ temps with a couple of more to come. Also many of days are historical highs as well high lows.

Also the temps are covering a large region when more often they are more local.

I live about an hour southeast of Santa Fe. Yesterday on the way into town (my one-a-week trip, one hour each way) I hit a short downpour and driving out of it the temp was 59. High in Santa Fe yesterday was 74, according to my car thermometer. I love living in the New Mexico mountains... Transplanted from Phoenix two years ago and very very happy.

DEN flights on hot days

I've flown out of DEN plenty of times when they announced on the plane, after boarding, that 1 or 2 people had to get off. Apparently when it's that hot and at that high altitude where the air is thinner, they have exceeded the regular weight capacity of a fully loaded airplane.

So they offer an incentive and ask if anyone that doesn't have luggage wants to get off (so they don't have to dig through the cargo to find the bags to offload). It always makes me distinctly uncomfortable that the plane is too heavy with that ONE extra person, but it's safe once that ONE person gets off. And it's a person with no baggage! I want them to look around the plane and find the largest person with the most bags and offload THAT person.

I know they have margins and it is safe, but the concept still worries me every time it happens.
