Nespresso on-board?
 

I just boarded a US flight carrying my cafe americano and behind me was one of the pilots carrying two cups of "good" coffee on-board. Given I have no status on US and it was F0 when I bought, we're standing stuck at the door while people were slowly getting settled. So a couple quips about the quality of airplane coffee and the need to import led to when are we getting espresso machines on-board. He mentioned that US' A330 had them and I recalled Alitalia had it when I flew them in the 90's.

As I sat in my seat, I got to wondering whether anybody has ever brought the small Nespresso machine onboard and fired it up?

Of course, you'd need AC current and there's probably no room in Y but there's certainly room in an F suite.

Added: just checked the current draw & it's not gonna work as the current draw is too high

Not Nespresso per se, but I have never had any difficulty getting an espresso after dinner. United, Virgin, and Emirates all served it during the last three months.

Many large cabin and ultra long range bizjets have a Nespresso machine on board. Aviation grade Nespresso machines can be installed at the completion center; very commonly selected option.

or SWISS. Possibly LH as well.

I've never asked so I can't be completely certain, but NH serves something that seems suspiciously like Nespresso in J/F on their TPAC and Europe routes.

I'll keep those in mind but as an AA / OW flier, it seems we've been left out of the espresso party.

Whatever floats one's boat but I cannot fathom, given carryon restrictions, how a cup of Nespresso while in flight compensates for carrying less medications, valuables, and other items used in flight unless one has no need for meds, does not use electronic devices or other fragile (non-checkable items), and does not carry some food, etc. on a flight.

It was more an idle speculation than an expectation. But the Nespresso Pixie is pretty small and if you're in an F suite on a 11 hour flight, why not? While I'm not saying I need to take one, adding it to my carry-on wouldn't cause me to sacrifice anything else.

All that said, thanks for pointing out what airlines do offer an espresso.

The co2 based espresso maker would work sans electricity if you got a cup of hot water. Assuming you could get the co2 cartridge past TSA.

I have been known to carry on a French press mug. Only works if you can get hot water, and these days the tea is usually pre-brewed.

I have to say my biggest complaint with hot beverages (tea, coffee, instant soup) on the plane is that the water supply is pretty rank to start with. I find myself drinking the canned/bottled stuff more because it hasn't gone through the water storage system on board. From a coffee perspective, I'd rather take some of those Starbucks bottled products than drink airplane coffee or tea.

Had a Roma on MH to pvg last week in J. I believe nespresso has "airline" dispensers

This is news to me but I love my nespresso coffee, so just one more thing to make me motivated to sit up front
