8 hours layover at lax

I'm arriving at 11am with CA and leaving at 7:30pm with UA. Any idea if I can check my bags directly onto the UA flight? Any suggestions what I can do with 8 hours and a half there? It will be my first time in LA. :-)

Thanks a lot!

There's always the requisite trip to In-n-out for a burger if you've never had one.

I second the In n Out trip and if you are there on a saturday or sunday the observation deck should be open.

Yes. Saturday. But the question is if I could check my bags all the way to Chicago. Otherwise, is there lockers?

About checking your bags through to Chicago I am not sure if that is possible as CA and UA are in different alliances. I would suggest calling either CA or UA and seeing if they have an interline agreement with baggage.

Where are you coming from? If your origin is domestic, and on United, you should be able to check all the way through. If your origin is international, you will need to go through immigration, collect your bags, then go through customs, the walk to terminal 6/7/8, and re-check your bags (6 is the closest to the international terminal). United should have no problem taking your bags 7-8 hours before the flight.

As for things to do, there is a free shuttle to the Hacienda Hotel, which is in El Segundo, and if you arrange it in advance, there are plenty of sight seeing/celebrity spotting tours that will pick you up from and drop you off at the Hacienda (if you want a celebrity spotting tour, try the TMZ tour).

Ooops, I missed the "arriving with CA" - so, refer to the 2nd half of my email about walking to terminal 6. According to Google maps, it is a 630 meter walk. Go out the international terminal door, turn right, and follow the sidewalk for 630m to terminal 6.

Oops didn't see the locker's question, but no there are no lockers on site due to security reasons since 9/11. Although there is a company that will hold your bags for you off site http://laxluggagestorage.com/
Hope this helps and enjoy your 8 hours in LA!

1. Lunch at the Encounter Restaurant at LAX.
2. The Grove, Century City or Rodeo Drive.
3. Santa Monica or Manhattan Beach.
4. Be in the audience of a TV or game show.

Manhattan beach is pretty close to LAX and a nice place to hang out. I killed a few hours between flights there in Jan 12 and it was nice.

There's also Venice Beach. Lots of restaurants and lots of crap being sold on the walk.

There are some casinos nearby if you're into card games.

What do you like doing?
