One more merger left?

Anyone besides me think that a three-way merger of Alaska, Hawaiian, and Frontier would make a lot of sense?

Spirit, Jet Blue and Alaskan would be a party. Allegiant will be looking for a buyer soon as well.

Why - are they in trouble cash flow wise or other?

Maybe allegiant and spirit. They both hate their customers so an easy corporate culture to merge.

My baseline assumption for Alaska, Hawaiian, and Frontier merging would be that Frontier would be acquirer. The part that I am unsure of is whether the Hawaiian and Alaska brands would be retired or whether it would be one owner with three brands.

I think a business case could be made for either decision. With one brand, you get greater economy of scale. With three brands, you keep the brand equity of Hawaiian and Alaska and you could still have a single frequent flyer program and complete code sharing. There is a precedent for this. Texas Air owned both Continental and Eastern for awhile (along with People Express and the old Frontier). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Air_Corporation
That is why Continental's FF program was called Onepass. It was "one pass" for all of the airlines that Frank Lorenzo owned.

Let's not forget that Frontier was already acquired out of bankruptcy by Republic.

I would love to see it. AS is my favorite Airlines but I have little access to it. Jet Blue, HA, and Frontier would be great and just make it a four some.

I would hope there won't be any more mergers. Fewer competitors means higher fares.

Interesting. Or maybe just make a new alliance.

Alaska Air Group: $3.5B
Republic Holdings: $466M
Hawaiian Holdings: $300M

I think people don't understand the relative values of these airlines....
