Agreed. It is a small subset of people that physically can't handle the 2 minute journey into the aircraft. These people will need to pack themselves an extra jacket or sweater and probably are aware of that. No need for the airline to offer anything additional.

For $1,500 there's a service which will meet you planeside with a freshly cleaned warm coat, walk you inside, collect the coat and leave.

Yeah. Unless you have some medical issue that makes it a bad idea it's not going to do you harm.

I recall one task from some episode of The Amazing Race. They had to go spend two minutes in a *VERY* cold room--the room was about as cold as you could go and still have a breathable atmosphere, Antarctica would be a sauna in comparison. They had some minimal frostbite protection but otherwise they were dressed in pretty skimpy attire. (Apparently this was something local athletes did in the belief it helped them.)

I'm sure someone will chime in and say "if you're connecting in a cold place, you should bring proper clothing." However, whether that is true or not, I would bet most people flying from California (or Arizona or Las Vegas) to Florida in the winter don't bring outerwear suited to the Midwest. Not to mention that many people don't even own that kind of clothing.
@:-) I can just see this now.....

"American/Delta/United/US Airways introduces short term rental outerwear for our customers this winter! For only $19.95, you will be provided with outerwear in order to protect yourself from the elements! And for a limited time, outerwear customers will earn 100 bonus frequent flyer miles for every 20 minute outerwear rental!"

Seriously, I can remember deplaning from Boeing 737 combi aircraft directly outside onto the tarmac in Alaska in the winter time.....and woe to the passenger that was not dressed accordingly!

Our last trip I was, although I don't know if it might have been psychological, looking down on all the ice we were flying over. It was only back by the restrooms, I didn't feel that way in my seat.

Would those be plain miles or status miles? After-all this is FT!

My motto: I don't care how stupid it looks but I am always prepared for the departing and arrival locations. (Carrying a wool overcoat for a business stop over in MNL between MSP and PEK in January.)

I've seen umbrellas at MCO back when Comair was still here. Don't recall seeing them anywhere else.

Elite members will earn status miles, of course, with a 10% discount if one uses a branded airline credit card for the carrier offering the outerwear....

And the outerwear will also be available at no charge to elites for a mere 10,000 mile redemption....

Some think that airlines should provide clothing for passengers? Almost unbelievable.

Would you really fly on a plane that required you to walk on the tarmac from MSP to Florida or to California? Form my experience flights like that are short flights. So if you're in that situation you're flying from an "insanely cold" place like MSP to a similarly "insanely cold" place nearby.
