Taking the long-way-round
Sometime in the new year, I will be traveling LAX-SIN for work. On the way back, I have the option to retrace my outbound path or kick in a little extra money and just keep heading west on a USA carrier/codeshare.
For those that have done it, is there enough justification to shell out $400 essentially for RTW bragging rights? If not, I will probably stop in Tokyo for a weekend, take in the sights, and make my US-bound semi-otaku friends happy. |
Depends how jetlag affects you too. Travelling west is generally easier for me. As for bragging rights, yup, I'd say it's worth it.
|
Also, you probably will get more points if you keep heading west from SIN.
|
Go for it.

Next question: is it possible?
Just looked at Kayak and aa.com & no USA-only flights to Europe / Mid East are showing. |

Little frustrating as it appears I can't get an AA/UA/DL/US ticket from SIN direct to any of the gateways that fly west to the USA. Anybody know of any routes I may have overlooked? I tried the usual suspects. |
Can you stop somewhere good on the way around?

Can't unfortunately. Work says it must be a USA airline on the ticket (metal doesn't matter). Otherwise very bad for me.

I can stop on the way if I'm heading westbound (not too many places though).
Work requires that it be a USA carrier flight number, they don't care who sells or operates it. If UA operates a flight SIN-DXB or SIN-LHR and the tickets says UA- Great. If if DL sells me the ticket but it says AF- No Go. If AA sells me a ticket on QF but it says AA24689 on the ticket- OK. |
