Question Drink service in coach...has anyone noticed?

It seems now to be rare if not non-existant that you get the whole can of soda as opposed to just a cup nowdays. In 9 segments I flew last month, longest flight being 2:50, I got just a cup of soda each time. On some flights there was more than one drink run and a time or two I was offered seconds but not once was I given the whole can.

Did you ask for the whole can? If so, what did the FA say?

My last flight I think the soda came out of a bottle. Could I have asked for the whole thing?

At least on Delta, that has been the norm for years. Generally if you ask the FA will give you the whole can.

"May I have a can of ginger ale, please?"

Only been told no once in the past decade.

Flew international and domestic on Delta a couple of months ago and I've got to say I did notice! We're paying enough for the ticket, are the airlines really cutting costs so much that we can't have a full can?

I must remember to ask for the full can next time!

It's probably just to reduce waste. If you ask they will almost always give you the whole can.

If I ask for a cup of the kidney's enemy - bloody mary mix - the can is always provided. At the same time, I never see that drink on non-US airlines, but it's probably best I don't have that much salt at once anyway.

I normally fly international so what I noticed on a recent domestic trip was no peanuts or pretzels--just a soft drink. When did that happen??

I've been refused many times on UA Express* flights when asking for Coke. While I almost never (maybe never) have been outright refused, the reply is typically something like "I'll give it to you if I have any left." Usually they actually remember to stop by my seat on the way back to the galley.

This happens on high load-factor flights. After seeing how many cans they get to begin with, I understand that the FAs do not want to run out.

*: As I see it UA is just a shell for SkyWest/ExpressJet, Trans States, etc. I've heard rumors of these things called "mainline" flights, "Boeing" and "Airbus" aircraft, and "First Class".

It's my SOP to ask for the can when flying US airlines.

They are counting on the aluminum recycling money to help defray fuel costs,
