Newbie -earning miles help
Hello, I am new to this forum. I need new ways/ideas to earn miles to fly from US to Australia with family of 4. We live in Nashville and fly to Brisbane to visit my husband's family, when we can. We've been about 5 times in the last 7 years and have earned about 3 or 4 "free" flights with miles. We have enough miles for 2 flights right now. Trying to earn more miles to get enough for another flight.
I looked up prices for March (when we want to go) and they are around $2k a ticket. Nuts. With the prices seemingly continually going up every year, I have recognized that I need to get more creative with earning miles so we 1)still actually get to travel to Oz more than once every few years and 2) don't go broke in the process. Would love any and all your ideas/best ways that you are able to do this if you travel frequently to Oz from the USA. And if this is not the right forum for this question, please school me. I looked around and just decided to start here. Thanks in advance, Julie |
Earn/burn rates vary by FF programs. Not sure if you are limited to AA/QF for your route -- I would expect you could use a dozen different FF programs. So you have some research to do if serious about optimizing the earn/burn. But $2K for BNA-BNE is probably representative of prices in the future, you can get cheaper from LAX but that isn't useful to you. Award availability is another issue. QF does have a nice DFW-BNE non-stop flight which you can redeem using Aadvantage miles. Lots of easy ways to earn Aadvantage, starting with credit cards. Good luck.

Welcome to FlyerTalk. Since your post is more of a general question about earning miles as opposed to one specific to Australia or New Zealand, I am going to move it to our TravelBuzz forum.

read the mi buzz forum....the current rage is getting multiple credit card sign up bonuses....
what carrier do you use? |
Read through the MilesBuzz and Credit Card forums. If you're trying for something in the relatively near future, you'll probably want to sign up for a couple credit cards depending on what airlines you're looking at.
