Checking luggage on the second leg of a flight

I've spent a few hours trying to find the answer to this question but have so far been unsuccessful. I'm currently living in South Korea and will be returning to the States for good in the next few months. Before I go home I would like to travel South East Asia for about 2 months. I've looked at flights for my final trek home and came across a Korean Air flight that goes from Hanoi to Seoul to Seattle, with a solid 8 hour layover in Seoul. Since I'll be travelling I would like to leave my heavy luggage in Korea with a friend and pick up on my layover. Would the airlines have a problem with this? Has anyone ever done this?

korea air couldn't help?

what's the bag story?.....how many on a-b? will these be checked thru to c?

how many will be checked from b-c?

it shouldn't be a problem.....but may have fees.....

I'll likely check one bag from the beginning, then in Seoul I'll check 1 or 2 more. I know Korean air has a two baggage allowance with a fee around 100$ for 3rd bags on international flights. So would checking luggage at two different locations of the flight itinerary be an issue?
I would think that this has been asked to the airlines before by someone who did some major shopping on their long layovers.

I just posted a similar question in the Cathay forum, as I'm flying CX. Although the specifics may be different, you may want to follow that thread for some general info.

So you want to fly HAN-ICN-SEA, checking one item at HAN and another at ICN? Highly unlikely to be a problem, although of course you have to meet baggage allowance.

Thanks guys,
I finally got a hold of the airline and they said it's no problem at all.

Sounds good then ^

I have not had issues doing this on AS (Yes they know if you checked some luggage already :p)

And welcome to Flyertalk- let us know if you run into any other issues...
