Layover rules and possibilities
 

I have a two questions actually.

Some layovers can be several hours, enough to go somewhere. If you take an international flight eg LAX to PEK and there was a layover in HKG and you check your bags do they provide or offer discounted storage? Does it depend on the airline, the length of the layover, or is just a case of too bad.

Also does anyone know where to find airports that offer free sight-seeing if you have a certain number of hours on a layover? I notice once when going thru TPE, they offered short bus tours that didn't require visa or custom issues (if I recall correctly). I think I just discovered SIN does as well.

In most cases, you should be able to check your bags all the way through to your final destination, as long as you only have a connection -- not a stopover -- at your intermediate city. On some itineraries, you might have to claim your checked baggage and clear customs at your intermediate city, but even then there will often be a baggage re-check desk after customs where you can drop your checked baggage for the final leg of your itinerary.

several hours wont affect bags.....10-12 hours may require bag claim....

its airport specific & varies.....mia has a limit per ft posts...

i don't remember hearing of carrier restrictions, but i wouldn't be surprised....

also, some carriers wont check bags for more than 3 legs....

Okay, rechecking makes if it is long layover. If I have long layover, but have checked my bags, I really don't want to have to haul them all over and then check them in as it gets close for my next flight to depart. I've heard people mention they will go into a city if there is mass transit from the airport to shop during a layover.
