Feecation - "The Best Travel Deal I’ve Possibly Ever Seen"

Saw this post in The Economist yesterday about Feecation, a new website that will supposedly refund you many of your travel-related fees: http://www.economist.com/blogs/gulli...2/05/feecation

It references this post from The Travel Insider, which called it "The Best Travel Deal I've Possibly Ever Seen": http://blog.thetravelinsider.info/20...ever-seen.html

I'd tempted to sign up, but I'm fairly worried about a Cyberrebates-like implosion.
Thoughts?

That's how it will work. You would need 18 separate fees to recoup your costs, people who travel that much probably are elite travelers that don't get hit with many fees anyway.

Eh - This would be pretty easy to rack up in hotel resort fees, hotel wifi fees, onboard cocktails, etc.

I'm gonna give it a try and see how it goes!

What is your experience with Feecation?

Who among us can recount how it has been to actually use this service?

Does it rebate as advertised? Does it make applying for a rebate so burdensome that it is not worth using?

If you submit receipts for five days of resort fees will it rebate $10 or $50?

Your experience would be very useful to know.

Thanks!

The link to the Chase version of this scheme in one of the comments there is very interesting. I will investigate when I return to my home computer.

Thanks for the headsup.

Feecation is a SCAM

I recently joined Feecation as part of a Travelocity offer of "click here to receive $20 off your ticket purchase". After a week, I wrote Feecation to find out why they had not made good on their offer. I learned that they don't offer refunds or credits, only a $20 check 3-6 weeks after signing up. Their initial free trial period is for 30 days. I now wonder if they will refuse to send me the check if I cancel before it ends!

I feel I got scammed and after 5 emails requesting they make good on their offer, I decided the only thing I could do was warn people.

Feecation subscribers BEWARE!!

Applying for rebates is VERY easy. You just enter very little information on the website and then forward the receipt/confirmation by email.

The checks come as promised, about 5 weeks after submitting the rebate.

I haven't experience with a multi-day fee yet. ($10 vs. $50.)

I just signed up for the feecation.com membership and started using it. Have you ever had any issues yet with any of the rebates you submitted? How long does it usually take to show the rebate is approved on the website or is that only right before the check is sent?

Agreed this only works if people claims less than the annual fee but don't cancel, bet it'll die off Inia year or two

Isn't this just essentially a ponzi scheme? Your 'investment' are your monthly fees and your 'returns' come from either your own investment or the 'investment' (monthly fees) of other members?

Not much different than insurance with its periodical premiums being used to (try to) generate money to more than cover claims from the policy holder and/or other insured parties in the same "investment"/insurance pool, right?

Ponzi schemes use the money from later investors to pay early investors. This doesn't, they're simply betting that the limits will cause you to spend more than you get back. Scum, not scam.
