The articles were about how one can make things go smoother and faster, regardless of things we cannot influence and how these measures may be seen as particularly helpful when the airport is actually very crowded or your connections are tight.

Yes, I understand that, but one major way to save time, is to plan to travel when the airport is not at its peak (which of course varies between airports etc). I've often taken this into consideration for both business and leisure travel, so it is far from impossible, and many people can influence such decisions. Another way would be to route to alternative airports in major cities (say London City, LGA, San Jose instead of LHR, EWR, SFO - also often within passengers sphere of influence.

There seem to be a large percentage of FTers who only travel with carry on - and considering this article is US-centric, many airlines allow 20kg carry on, plus coat, purse etc. Gate-checking is another suggestion that might have been helpful in the article as well.

If the aim of the article was to educate everyone from a novice up (as I really don't think frequent travellers need to be told about OLCI) then stating the obvious re carry on and gate checking, or the not-so-obvious about peak times, or alternate airports might well prove helpful to such travellers.

I just suggested to a co-worker that she fly into Reagan rather than Dulles to save time on her trip, as well as at the airport - and she is hardly a novice traveller (just wasn't thinking of the best strategy).

You get go thru special immigration lines at airports in those countries, including differing periods of permitted stay. Some airlines also offer "fast track" cards to their premium class pax, and in some airports, you can even buy special greet and meet to help you get to the front of line quicker.

So yes, your article is missing a lot.

Fast track for Non-EU at LHR with some airlines.

Another idea for some places (such as LHR) may be having an up to date passport - mine has a chip, and I can use the automated gate entry at LHR.
