Grounded!! -- Longest period of time you've gone without flying

It's easy to take for granted the availability of (relatively) inexpensive transportation and accessibility to go just about anywhere compared to not that long ago (Along with the rest of the +/- changes of other tech, "advancements")

So..question for FTers...then - since one "started flying actively"...however far back that might take one...what is the longest period of time one has gone without flying?

Recently --

For me -- I would say 9 months. Sometimes a feast/famine thing here.

In 2010 I did a RTW trip (~39k flight miles, and a healthy bit overland) that took 5 months (3 weeks at dad's place at the end though) as well as a couple shorter trips earlier in the year. After that RTW I was tired of traveling and moving, and needed to focus on staying in one place.

From early December 2010 - Sept.6, 2011 I did not fly at all. Nor did I drive a car (Don't own a car) - just bus/walk/taxi.

---

At the moment my last flight was Dec.8, 2011, and I won't fly again until April 11 so 4 months for this spell. Again, no car - just bus/walk/taxi.

---

Prior to this recent timeframe...without thinking too hard...maybe 6-7 month blocks of inactivity is the most over the last 10 years. Earlier than 10 years ago - business/personal trips kept me flying fairly regularly for a half dozen years - though less intensity (No longer than a few weeks of on the move traveling, and usually much less) overall.

When I lived in Singapore as a kid, I was flying every couple months to go on awesome vacations. Upon moving back to the US, we hardly did any vacations and I went two or three years without flights at a time. Now I work for an airlines and can travel for cheap every weekend!

Does anyone keep a log of every place they've flown? This question made me realize I'll eventually forget when/where I flied, and it would be nice to look back on when I'm 50 years older.

I'm in the midst of it right now - my last flight was in November, 2010. Last year was the first complete calendar year since 1988 that I've gone without flying. I miss it.

You're not missing much "on the planes" themselves. Same "Packed to the Gills" and "Fighting for Overhead Bin Space" stuff. But for sure, I do like to travel, even with the inconveniences.

Besides, from what I have read, you have a sure-fire career ahead of you - writing for Letterman and his "Top Ten" lists!

I might actually win this one.

As a child I racked up 38 countries, the majority by air.

I don't think I flew from about age 22 to about age 32, though.

Dec 18th 2005 LAX – MCI SW
June 3rd 2006 MCI – EWR CO

So 5 months and 16 days is my longest since I started flying

Since moving here we get away together just once a year and to be honest that's more than enough for me.

Flying isn't as much fun as it used to be....far too many rules nowadays.

I think I went from May 2004 to about Dec 2006 without flying. It was weird when I finally did.

1996-2006 I didn't fly.

Now I fly somewhere an average of once a year.

Since I started flying for fun at age 21 in 2001 - 176 days - between Dec.2003 and Jun.2004. Had to get a godawful corporate type job to pay off some school debts.

Since then, haven't gone more than a 100 days between leaving the country, not a single work-related trip.

I've been cold turkey for 21 days - already longest for over two years. I keep looking up at the sky when outside and wondering how things are going up there.

I may need to go to New York next week, but otherwise I might not be going anywhere until Mardis Gras in New Orleans!

Since starting flying regularly in January last year my biggest gap was 3.5 weeks whilst on holiday in the UK and then 17 days over xmas. Otherwise it has been a flight every 3 or 4 days.

I've found that in the gaps it feels odd, although I do get my fix of seeing planes as I'm about 2 minutes flying time from the local airport.

Since 2007, I've been on plane at least once every 2-3 months. I haven't been on a plane since Thanksgiving but that'll be fixed this week as I start a 9-segment month. Then 14 segments in April

Looking back at FlightMemory, it was 355 days once.

ICN-LAX KE11 2005-08-26

And before semi-adulthood, it was almost 21 months
