How does Flightaware work regarding aircraft?

Greetings,

I have been watching Flt 31 (LAX-HNL) because I will be on it soon. Today it is showing a 767-300 on the route. That said, everything I check shows a 757-200 (aa cargo, aa seat maps, etc). I know in the past if the flight yesterday was on a 767, it would show up today as a 767 even if it was a 757. Yesterdays flight was a 757.

So, how does flightaware come up with the aircraft on the routes?

Sometimes,Flightaware gets confused when the flight number is used on multiple flights durung the day with a change of equipment.Say, a trans con uses a 757 ,LAX-JFK,say flight #1,then it changes to an international flight at JFK ,say JFK-TLV,a 744. Make any sense?

Flightaware just reports the flight data, it doesn't forecast it.

Here's a good tool to use when you're trying to see different aircraft swap outs, etc: http://data.flight24.com/flights/aa31/

Looks like you can be about 95% sure you'll be on a 757.

Thanks for the info. Just curious as to how it worked. Kind of figured I would be on the 757. Too bad this flight wasn't changed to the 767 versus the 3 pm flight.

Econometric, I like that website. Intersesting stuff.
