Worldwide number of airlines
I have been reading some really weird airline names here at FT and other travel blogs and was wondering how many commercial airlines are there around the world.
Is there a list somewhere, country by country?

...and many come and go in a very short period... or change names or merge with another (tiny) airline...
I'd rather draw the line at airlines with (multiple?) jet a/c, or substantial numbers of non-jet (like Pacific Coastal ..8P?)....
I am not really interested in lists cluttered up with remote area freight "airlines" whose assets are a single C206!
