Flight costing - more expensive closer the time?

Been watching flights to new york from london for february...

Went up £20 today. My fault - should have booked earlier.

Is this generally the rule? Do they get more expensive closer the time or does it all depend?

Yes, that's generally the case that prices will go up closer to the date.

Per Bing Travel's price predictor, the price is "dropping or steady" and the tip is to "wait".

I don't know how accurate this is, so don't put too much trust in it, but that's what it says.

Since February is a slow travel time, in that market you could see some post-holiday, mid-winter sale fares.

Well I went ahead and booked it anyway.

That week is actually kids holiday time in the UK (and possibly the US) so I dont think its ever going to be mega cheap.

Reverse price skimming, works the opposite way of electronics.
