Avoiding sunlight during US east-west flights

I think I know the answer but I just wanted to verify.

In order to stay out of the sun as much as possible.

JFK-SFO in AM - Right side

LAX-JFK in afternoon - Left side

Do I have that correct? Thanks.

The sun will be to the south mostly, so that sounds right to me.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.601 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/417)

If you're going to sit in a window seat, close the shade. If you're going to be on a widebody aircraft (like an AA 767) and don't want a window seat, choose a seat in the middle section, between the two aisles.

Red Eye flight?;)

If you're wanting darkness, Brookstone sells an eye mask that is better than what's included in a CX F amenity kit [or an AA F amneity kit].

Last time I bought one, I paid about $19.99, but it's well worth every penny.

Are you doing this for health reasons? In which case it doesn't matter - the windows stop the UV rays.

Otherwise the advice is correct.

Though chalk me up as one who can't stand people who close window shades on day flights unless it is so bright to make it incredibly hot/impossible to see a screen. Take the 7pm LHR-JFK. It takes off at 2pm JFK time. Why do I want to trick my body into thinking is later than it is? Works against time zone adjustments.

Yes, on AA flights, this is correct.

(Not sure why this in AA forum, it's not really AA specific)

+1.

As the topic is not airline-specific, it has been relocated. /Moderator

P.S. If it's about light and eyes, a good solution for me has been a decent sleep mask (not often the airline's)

Magellan's "Lights Out" sleep mask, ~$14.50

Dream Essentials sleep mask (available from many, including Amazon, for ~$10)

Correct, with the possible exception of a very early morning flight or a very late afternoon flight in June or July. But in these cases, the sun would be coming from over your shoulder anyway, so not so not so bad.
