How about Lubbock and Austin? I made several trips from Houston to DEN and SLC in those days, and although I never came back through Lubbock, I think it was an alternate route for TI.
I could have cheated for this answer, but my OAG for that time is buried near the bottom of a pile of OAGs that I'm listing on eBay to clear some storage space (unabashed advertisement to tempt those of you with holes in your collection).

TI 331: Salt Lake City (SLC) 11:15a - 12:20p Denver (DEN) 12:45p - 2:55p Lubbock (LBB) 3:15p - 4:10p Austin (AUS) 4:25p - 4:59p Houston (IAH) 5:30p - 6:22p New Orleans (MSY)
Op: Daily
Equip: DC9
Meal service: Snack SLC-DEN, Lunch DEN-LBB
TI 331 then became TI 907 with a 7:00 pm departure to Baton Rouge and then on to Lake Charles and Houston on a daily except Saturday flight schedule.
Salt Lake City and Denver as well as LAX were new destinations served by TI in 1970. The airline had also recently changed its name from Trans-Texas Airways (TTa) to Texas International.

One BAC One-Eleven was actually lost on a flight from Lake Tahoe to Denver, when taking off at Tahoe.

I believe the Starflight BAC One-Eleven (N711ST) was operating a gambling charter flight on behalf of Harrah's Casino when the mishap occurred at Lake Tahoe (TVL) back in the mid 1970's resulting in the nose gear as well as the outboard section of the right wing of the aircraft being ripped off following a significant encounter with a snow bank during take off. There are a couple of other photos of this aircraft out there, one on airliners.net depicting the wing damage and the other here:
http://www.departedwings.com (select "The Airports" and then select "TVL")
Following the accident, it appears this One-Eleven (formerly operated by American before it was sold, I believe) then sat on the ramp at TVL for awhile.

here's hoping our friend Seat 2A is recovering smoothly
Trivia Question:
what was the significance of this image on the front cover of a Boeing telephone directory?

Received a PM a couple of days ago from Seat 2A. He's having some ups and downs with regard to his recovery but is definitely on the mend.
Meantime, here are several quiz items:
1. In the winter of 1986, this airline was operating direct wide body service twice a week from London Gatwick (LGW) to Los Angeles (LAX). Flight 021 departed LGW at 12:30pm and arrived LAX at 6:30pm with one stop being made en route on the east coast of the U.S. Identify the air carrier, the equipment and the intermediate stop. ANSWERED
2. In the spring of 1996, this air carrier was operating direct service from Colorado Springs (COS) to Los Angeles (LAX) six days a week on a daily except Saturday schedule. Flight 33 departed COS at 1:10pm and arrived LAX at 6:05pm with three stops being made en route. Equipment was a twin jet. Identify the airline, the aircraft type and all three stops in the order in which they were made. ANSWERED
3. It's the fall of 2000 and you are in Portland, Oregon. You've just completed a project as a consultant and have now accepted an invitation from friends to join them for a late season backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park. You have also ascertained there is a direct flight departing PDX daily at 5:00pm that will get you to the closest airport to Yosemite NP with jet service by 7:40pm. One intermediate stop will be made en route by flight 333. What air carrier will you be flying on and what airport will you be arriving into at 7:40pm? Also identify the en route stop and the twin engine jet aircraft type. ANSWERED
And BTW jrl767, we are still awaiting your response to post #10036!

that photo is indeed an Electra, and you correctly pointed out that the turboprop entered service well after Family Fares were introduced in 1948

1. An excellent guess! However, the airline was not Continental, the aircraft was not a 747 and the stop was not made at Newark.
So here are some hints: the air carrier in question was not a major airline but it was based in the U.S. It is also no longer in existence.

Howdy, gang! I'm stuck here in this rehab facility in Boulder, CO where I undergo Occupational and Physical therapy 4-5 times per day. The therapists are very good, which is great because among other challenges I can't walk on my own, my right arm is as good as useless and I'm stuck in this hard neck brace for the next 6-8 weeks. Thanks for the kind thoughts though and I hope to be back in the air by December.

I'm thinking this was World Airways operating a DC-10-30 via BWI.

In the spring of 1996 I flew from COS to LAS aboard a Reno Air DC-9-80. We left in the early afternoon, too. I'm going to surmise that this flight continued on to RNO and SJC before terminating at LAX.

Here's how you did with regard to the above quiz items....
1. Well, you've got the stop at Baltimore correct! However, the airline was not World Airways and the equipment was not a DC-10-30 (or any DC-10 model for that matter).
2. You've got one of the stops correct here: Las Vegas. However, LAS was not the first stop and the other stops were not made at RNO or SJC. In addition, the air carrier was not Reno Air nor was the aircraft an MD-80.
So please guess again! And with that, I'm off to New Orleans on business so there may be a delay with my responses until late tomorrow afternoon.

1- ok then: LGW-BWI-LAX; not a 747, not a DC-10, US-based non-major airline that no longer exists ... how's about a Piedmont 767?

I was about to see if I could come up with anything via America West but then the morphine kicked in and I remembered another obscure airline that served COS in the mid-90s. That airline was Air21, operating F28 jets to about a dozen west/southwestern cities. So, let's go with an Air21 F28 routing COS-GJT-LAS-FAT-LAX.
