72. Yep. I do not think that Air Wisconsin originally intended to operate the Dornier 328 propjet. However, back during this time, I believe United had apparently decided to replace United Express service operated by Mesa into Denver with a combination of UAEx code share flights flown by Air Wisconsin and Great Lakes. Air Wis was in need of additional equipment and Mountain Air Express (MAX), a Dornier 328 operator set up by Western Pacific for passenger feed, had ceased operations following the collapse of Western Pacific. And so, the former MAX Dornier 328 aircraft went to work with Air Wisconsin flying United Express service out of DEN.

  2. Orlando (MCO) Incorrect
  3. Jacksonville (JAX) Correct!
  4. Norfolk (ORF) Incorrect
  5. Washington National (DCA) Incorrect - DCA was served but not as the fifth stop
  6. Philadelphia (PHL) Correct!
National Airlines (NA) operating a Lockheed L-188 Electra configured with first and coach (A/T) is correct.

79. let's open the bidding with these seven:
  1. Alaska (AS) Incorrect
  2. Braniff (BN)
  3. Eastern (EA)
  4. Hughes Airwest (RW)
  5. Northwest (NW)
  6. United (UA)
  7. Western (WA)
All correct with the exception of Alaska Airlines.

and I'll just toss the number 28 out there for the total nonstop mainline jet weekday frequency
Incorrect - we are looking for a higher number of flights

80. Eastern and Northwest for sure, probably United as well
EA, NW and UA are correct - however, you have not identified the wide body aircraft types
And as for the geographical location of Montauk on Long Island......hey, I'm not lost, boys! I'm right on 'er!

77- the only possible stop between FMY and TPA would be Sarasota (SRQ), which (eliminating MCO and ORF, and with DCA being out of sequence) would perhaps give
  1. SRQ
  2. TPA
  3. JAX
  4. Richmond (RIC)
  5. DCA
  6. PHL
80- wide-body jets operating SEA<-->PDX
EA L-1011
NW DC-10, 747
UA DC-10

77. Here are the stops that have been correctly identified and here's what we are looking for:

Originating Airport: Fort Myers (FMY)
First Stop: Sarasota (SRQ)
Second Stop: Tampa (TPA)
Third Stop: Jacksonville (JAX)
Fourth Stop: Washington D.C. (DCA)
Fifth Stop: ________________
Sixth Stop: Philadelphia (PHL)
Terminating Airport: New York (JFK)

77-B: And here's a bonus question: this flight only served New York JFK on Fridays and Saturdays. What airport did this flight serve on the other five days of the week? ANSWERED

80. All correct with the exception of 747 service operated by Northwest. NW did operate the DC-10 on the route.

89. American Trans Air (ATA) is correct; however, the equipment was not an L-1011. Please identify the international destination served nonstop from IND by ATA as well.

My guess is that this was a direct flight, HOU-XXX-ATL. Thinking big, it would have been MSY, but I bet it was a bit smaller...

How about Gulfport (GPT)?

85. Correct! AirTran (FL) was operating one daily flight with a DC9-30 between Houston Hobby (HOU) and Gulfport (GPT) most likely with the primary mission of transporting tourists visiting the casinos located in the latter destination. AirTran was also operating daily nonstop DC9-30 service at this time between Gulfport and Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA). Gulfport was apparently a "mini focus city" for AirTran in 1999.

82. In the summer of 1983, only two airlines were operating Boeing 727 jet service into Hong Kong. One of these was an air carrier we recently discussed: Air Nauru (ON). Name the other airline and for bonus points identify the only nonstop route it operated into Hong Kong which was flown twice a week. And here's a hint: the capital city of this airline's home country were served on a one stop basis by this flight.
Is this Royal Nepal Airlines, operating a 727 through Dacca (Bangladesh) to Kathmandu ? Nepal had a longstanding relationship with Hong Kong through the Gurkhas, a wholly British army regiment with UK officers but Nepalese volunteer enlisted men, who were the principal army presence in Hong Kong while it was a British colony.

UK charter company Dan-Air helped Royal Nepal out operationally with the 727, which occasionally used to come back to the Dan-Air maintenance base at Lasham in the UK for major checks, while Dan-Air supplied a substitute 727, so I guess one of these turned up occasionally in Hong Kong, rather a long way from it's home beat plodding from Gatwick to Palma and back.

77B- I'd have to speculate that the flight went to Newark instead of JFK

this was when several U.S. major carriers had set up lower-cost subsidiary "airline-within-an-airline" operations (e.g., UA had both Shuttle by United and Ted) ... an all-coach configured 737-200 was very common , so I'll guess the culprits were Delta Express and US Airways Metrojet ... the paradigm didn't last very long
