Thanks for the thread, guys! Just discovered it, and it's cost me most of my day at work so far!

Since nobody seems to have officially answered, yet, the other LAX-ITO airline was CO.

Here are a couple questions pertaining to one of UA's more interesting flights:

1. UA used to fly SFO-OAK-RNO-EKO-ELY-SLC-DEN (some years DEN was included, some years it wasn't, and the OAK stop was eventually eliminated). Of course, it was flown in both directions. The aircraft used was a DC-6, and later a 737. What aircraft was used in between those two?

2. How did they justify continuing this route, using 737s, even after Deregulation?

As for the IL-62 to North America:

Cubana
LOT (before they woke up to western-built aircraft)
Interflug
CSA (short-lived service, IIRC)
some Ukrainian airline whose name I can't remember

1. Well, we did have a little bit of a prior discussion concerning this.....

And if memory serves me right, a Convair 580 turboprop was used on the route; however, I thought the CV-580 was used to replace the B737-200 service.....

I'm pretty sure the 580 (leased from Frontier) was in service when I was in high school, since I was still making regular trips to SFO to take pictures then (the observation deck over Pier D -- always piers, not concourses at SFO -- was still open), and taking the 737 all the way SFO-DEN when I was in college.

Just never saw the CO answer after the hint of it being Bob Six's airline on page 36 -- skipped pages 8 through 35 in the interest of time!

Ah, here's a good one.

What were the "Western-built" aircraft that LOT of Poland operated BEFORE Perestroika (ie before the end of socialism in 1989).

Douglas DC3/C-47, Convair 240, Lockheed L-10 Electra, and Vickers Viscount

11.) What airline would you be flying on the daily nonstop jet flight between Port au Prince, Haiti and Kingston, Jamaica?

ALM primarily served routes to and from the Dutch Antilles, so no - it wasn't them
. Hint: The flight was operated with a DC-9-30

12.) What was the only airline offering nonstop service between New York and Port au Prince?
Air France would be a good choice for this route and they may have even flown it at one time but in November of 1970, it was another airline offering the nonstop service. Hint: this route was served by a jet that had the largest passenger windows of its era.

Well, Seat 2A, I'll admit the above two questions have been tough ones....so we'll go for broke here!

11) BWIA with a DC-9-30? I don't think so....or could it be Air Jamaica? Maybe yes but probably not.....so that leaves.....Eastern?

12) American with a Convair 990?

The question was "New York", Cubana only served Toronto IIRC. Still does.

Here are some more questions....

1) United operated the DC-8 Super 60 series into Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) from several destinations. Name two destinations that had nonstop Super DC-8 service flown by UA during the winter of 1976.

2) What airline operated the L-1011 nonstop between Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa (TPA) in the winter of 1976?

3) Name a jet operator that only had one small hub which was located at Detroit City Airport (DET) and the primary aircraft type this scheduled passenger airline operated.

4) What is the location and elevation of the highest commercially served airfield in the U.S. (meaning scheduled airline service)?

5) What airline operated jet service into Aberdeen, South Dakota (ABR) and what was the aircraft type?

6) What airline operated jet service into Cody, Wyoming and what was the aircraft type?

7) What two Airbus models have never been operated by a U.S. based scheduled passenger airline?

8) Name as many former Fokker 100 operators that flew the type in the western hemisphere as you can.

9) During the past several years, a number of Fokker 100s have migrated to this part of the world. Name the country, the specific geographical region of this country and the city these F-100s are primarily being operated from at present.

10) And finally, in honor of good old Continental (which will cease to exist over the weekend), name all of the mainline jet aircraft types ever operated by CO.

Good questions, jlemon! Here're some guesses!

4) What is the location and elevation of the highest commercially served airfield in the U.S. (meaning scheduled airline service)?

Currently, I would guess one of the Colorado ski areas like Sardy Field at Aspen maybe, but once upon a time Leadville, Colorado enjoyed commercial air service and it is the highest town in America at over 10000' elevation. It would probably be the highest ever served in the U.S.

8) Name as many former Fokker 100 operators that flew the type in the western hemisphere as you can.

American
Midway
Mexicana
US Airways
JetsGo (Canada)
Ocean Air? (Brasil)
PLUNA? (Uruguay)

By the way, on question 10 I would add to Tony's list of Continental jet aircraft flown the 737-100 and 737-300. The 100s were inherited from People Express and the 300s were ordered or leased outright.
