Packing Suggestions?
Hey all,
I'm heading on a business trip to Africa this week and wanted to ask your advice. I travel quite a bit so I know how to pack lightly but I inevitably seem to end up with a little more than I feel I should. My total trip is three weeks. The first part of my work trip will be spent training people in a very casual setting. Then three days of more formal sessions where I have to wear something nicer than jeans and a t-shirt. And then the remainder of the trip will be mostly casual. I will be in Eastern Africa where temps hover around 80F and then in Germany for the last week where it's winter. I'm thinking jeans, black trousers, a couple of Ts, three button down shirts, two ties, sneakers, dress shoes, 1 pair black socks, 3 pairs casual socks. I'm concerned because I'll be the session leader on the three days and would prefer not to wear the same nice dress shirt and tie combo twice (same people all three days). Any thoughts? Thanks! |
I'm not an expert.. I usually compartamentalize my unique days and how many shirts and pants are required for those.. and extra incidentals on top of what I require for my unique days..
A 3 week trip, and wanting to pack light.. you may want to use the washer and dryer on the trip..:) |
Packing Tips for Air Travelers
1. You may not pack liquid or gel substances in your carry-on unless they are in individual three-ounce containers, enclosed in one clear, quart-size, plastic, zip-top bag per passenger. Any larger containers of liquids and gels must be packed in your checked luggage. For more information.
2. Be aware of restrictions on the size and number of bags you may bring onto your flight. Many airlines now charge a fee for every checked bag or have lowered the maximum permitted weight limits for checked luggage. 3. Do not lock your checked bags except with TSA approved locks otherwise, if your bag is selected for random screening, agents will have to break the lock to get inside. 4. Do not overpack your bag. Screeners will have a difficult time closing your luggage if selected for inspection, which will only lead to wrinkles and the potential for lost articles. 5. Carry all film with you onboard, as screening equipment for checked luggage can damage undeveloped film. 6. Place any packed belongings you don't feel comfortable with strangers handling in clear plastic bags. 7. Do not stack books and other documents on top of each other; instead, spread them out throughout your bag. |
I am female but a light packer. Your list looks pretty good but I'll guess you will be really tired of those clothes by the time the trip is over. [That's really here nor there but thought I would mention it from experience.] I would suggest maybe one more t-shirt, one more pr of black socks, and a pair of shorts (or zip-off travel/hiking pants). Does this list include the clothes you will travel in?
Good travels! |
