Can I make two separate bookings on same flight?
 

Hi,
I have a question, I currently have two bookings to and from the following cities:

Booking 1:
BOS - JFK - SYR
SYR - JFK - BOS

Booking 2:
JFK - AMS

The purpose is to get from SYR to AMS, but I can't just skip the last segment of booking 1 because my bags would end up in BOS and I'm flying to Amsterdam.

The cost of taking the last segment out would be $203 for the fare and change costs, but a complete new booking for one-way SYR - JFK is only $97. Would that create a problem when I have two bookings on the same plane? Would they maybe say hey, you're already on that plane so we'll just cancel the whole booking nr.1 or something like that...

I don't know. It certainly could be a problem. I think the systems flag double bookings. Perhaps you could consider just carrying on your bags to AMS or changing the date of the SYR-JFK-BOS flight you plan on skipping.

There is actually the possibility to book that extra one-way ticket on a different airline, that shouldn't create problems then, right?

I'm confused about the order of the flights in the first booking, but, to answer your question, yes, you can book 2 tickets on the same flight.

As for the bags just tell the ticket agent to short check them when you drop them off so you can claim them at JFK. It's not uncommon to get your bags if say you had a long layover. Just make sure the person checkin in your luggage only checks it to JFK. No need to change the ticket or buy a new one.

to book the same carrier syr-jfk, don't put in your ff#.....if the ff mi are critical for some reason, ask for them later....

best would to use a different carrier syr-jfk....

if ua or co is the current carrier, booking thru the other one....hopefully they don't check for dupes of thit type....

Ok, I solved it in a way that I'm thinking "why didn't I think of that before?".
Since I'm on the west side of Boston and I have to be about an hour east of Syracuse, it takes 5 hours to drive. And since I have a rental car already, I might as well change the drop-off location of the car and just drive there. From door to door going by plane would take about 8 to 9 hours so I might as well drive :)

So I only had to change the ticket that I'm only doing one segment, from SYR to JFK, and that change costed me only 6 dollars :)

@Pete838: It depends on the mood of the agent at the check-in counter. If he/she is in a bad mood, they can just label it all the way through, they don't HAVE to short check it.
