Adoption and ticket flexibility

Is anyone aware of special ticket terms for flights regarding adoption? This is a domestic adoption, so I don't expect any discounts, but I was curious if anyone knew if any of the airlines would waive change fees or the like when dealing with the scheduling uncertainty of adoption.

Nope. Sorry. You'll just have to buy a ticket that is flexible - generally meaning more expensive.

Best of luck with the adoption!

I don't have personal knowledge on this. However, if I were you, I would ask the adoption agency first and see how they proceed with such issues. I would also check with the airline, maybe PR department or something, and see what they could help with this sort of possible-last-minute-change situation.

When buying tickets, I would either buy one-way ticket or get myself one-way award, when change-of-schedule is expected, so I wouldn't have to worry about change fee. It's possible to find good fare on 1-way ticket nowadays. Some airlines offer half mileage redemption for 1-way award tickets as well.

Which airline do you have elite status on? If you have a high enough status, change fee may be waived.

Good luck!

The only way to find out is to call and ask.

Best of luck! I am an adult adoptee and hope all goes well for you and your future child.

Southwest has no change fees, but you may still be hit with the fare difference.

Congrats on the adoption..

For flexibility if the city is near, I would plan to drive.. if a decent fare is available when everything is confirmed, then book the airline ticket..

Why on earth would you think an airline would do this?

Are you implying that common sense always applies in the airline industry? I see no harm in the OP asking a perfectly legitimate question.

Because certain carriers do offer such Fares:

From http://Delta.com/planning_reservatio...ules/index.jsp:
"Available Discounts Not On Delta.com

Certain discounts or companion fares may apply to a selected itinerary but are not available at delta.com.
  • bereavement fares,
  • international adoption fares,
  • military and government fares, or
  • senior discounts"

"I see no harm in the OP asking a perfectly legitimate question. "

...so why are you questioning me for asking a perfectly legitimate question?

Both are legitimate questions..

and begs for clarification.. I think a list of special fares are useful to know, and the reasons for offering those fares as well..
