Aborted takeoff
 

Today (9.24.11) CO flight 4749 aborted its 2:35pm takeoff from Boston (to CLE) about halfway down the runway due to mechanical problems. We returned to the gate and disembarked. The GA Daria did an outstanding job booking me into a DL flight to DAY. My bag was transferred to my flight and was with me (apparently) the entire way. I had paid $25 for the bag to CO since I rarely fly CO and use Plat AMEX for Delta incidentals.

I presume I will get a refund for the $25. There was one really disconcerting event: I called my son to back up my flight while still on the plane. Even though I was standing in the gate area, he was told I could not be backed up because the computer said the flight had departed.

Maybe, maybe not. If they moved your bag over to DL directly then probably not. If they gave you the bag back and you checked it yourself with DL then you should.

The flight is marked as "departed" in the system when they close it out in the computer systems. Until someone in Ops goes back and opens it back up it is considered departed. Not uncommon at all.

Your post title just reminded me of a Delta flight out of Chicago about 17 years ago.
TWO aborted take offs. TWO. Both Compressor Stalls. And believe me, that kind of backfire on a plane at full power is loud in the passenger compartment.
They took us to the hanger and we literally sat on the plane while they inspected the engine(s), then we headed back out and ran the runway again.
This time no problem.
You could have heard a pin drop when the pilot applied full power the third time.
But no compressor stall.
There are a few funny details about this story I'll spare you.
Only time I had ever been on an aborted take off. And the ONLY time I heard a compressor stall - TWICE! :eek:
