Anyone recognize this airline logo?
 

Hello all,

First, I hope this is the right place for this. If not, could a moderator relocate the thread? Sorry for any trouble.

Anyways, this probably seems like an elementary question, but can someone ID the airline these wings belong to (link at end)? I got them at an estate for a former FAA Medical Examiner. They are really large and look cool, but I'm curious what airline this might be. And any idea of the age, given the logo? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The two-triangle insignia in the oval below the star looks like Allegheny's.

Guv, thanks, I think you're right. There was also an old desk model for an Alleghrny aircraft at the estate as well, so it makes sense. Thanks for the quick answer!

Yep those are Allegheny pilot wings. They are very similar to the current ones. Can you post a pic of the aircraft model?

The Allegheny model was really in bad shape so I didn't buy it, it was plastic and the wings and tail were broken and had been sloppily glued on. I did get two other desk models, one a Northeast Brittania, which is pretty big and HEAVY metal, and a Northwest model, which is plastic and a bit smaller. I'm guessing the Brittania is from the '50s or 60s, but no idea about the NW model. The Brittania is cool, but the props are gone and it has some strange damage to the top. Here's a pic:

By the cabin entry to many US aircraft today are the logos of the components that make up today's US Airways: Allegheny (overlapping triangles), Pacific Southwest, Piedmont, maybe one more? Mohawk? Anyone else recall?

I thought it was pretty cool.

I remember seeing PSA, with the "smiley face" and piedmont with "speedwings", but can't recall the others.

Mohawk, which began its life as the Ithaca-based Robinson Aviation, was certainly one of US Airways' ancestors. Mohawk was taken over by Allegheny in 1972.

The heritage airlines for US are Piedmont, Allegheny, PSA, and America West.

Plus Mohawk, certainly, and Empire, which merged into Piedmont. The Empire story is posted on the US website, so I'd say the airline considers it part of the heritage story:
