Cancelled flights and refunds
 

Hello, newbie here so please bear with me!

I flew from NYC to London, my flight out from NY was delayed by 24 hours and when we finally made it to London the next day my Virgin flight from London to Manchester was canceled. This was in December 2010 due to weather. No alternative transportation was offered. Husband and I made our way from London to Manchester via tube and train - which cost us an extra couple of hundred quid in tickets.

My query is, Virgin have (just) refunded the money for our flights, but are they also required to pay for the extra costs we laid out because no alternative transport was offered? Basically is there a basis for a claim to refund the money we spent on train tickets?

I am not sure I understand - was your connection cancelled or did you miss it because your original flight was delayed 24 hours?

airlines cant control weather....

you were rebooked on the lon-man?....if so, the euro pax rules could apply....good luck...

They refunded your tickets so it's like it never happened. If the train tickets cost more than the flights tickets, I would ask for the difference. And you probably could squeeze out some CSR vouchers too.

To clarify - our flight from London to Manchester was cancelled. Even if we hadn't have been delayed in NYC and had been in time to catch our original connecting flight that too was also cancelled due to the weather. I believe pretty much every flight domestic flight during that week was cancelled.

Yeah thats what I figured re; the weather. We weren't rebooked as no flights were being offered in the foreseeable future and we were basically left to our own devices to get home which is why I wondered if there would be some basis for a refund.

The train tickets were quite a lot more expensive than the money we were refunded for the flights. I think it cost us in excess of 200GBP for two train tickets and we were refunded about 60GBP for the flights.
