BA vs. AA vs. Virgin?
 

Flying LAX-LHR. I can choose AA (first class), BA (business class) or Virgin (upper class). Price, timing and frequent flyer program membership are not relevant.

Suggestions?

AA if you wanna comfortable sleep no hassle and sss at lhr when you arrive...V if you wanna be at the bar, shoot the breeze and party...BA byz isn't there at all.

Perfect ... score is 1-1-1 :D :D

So, flymore, what are you really looking for?
Flat beds?
Good food?
Sexy CC/FA?
Getting trashed?

It's entirely your call from the original post. Have you posted on AA and VS Boards as well? .... checking ....

My vote goes to AA First. AA First Suite is still a decent product - just make sure to reserve a window seat (for free:D). Plus Bose headsets, PTV screens bigger than in BA's 'old' First and access to CX/BA F lounges so you will not even have to visit this so called 'AA Flagship Lounge' at LHR T3:p. Food will be better than in CW (I was a bit shocked as there are some posts on this forum that food in CW is now even worse than in AA Business). If you do not expect too much from AA First (well - in fact - duvet and toilet kit will be the same as in Business) you will be fine.

Whichever, this is clearly either a major piece of research, or a Journalist ... ;)

Not a problem, but clearly a lot of effort is being put in to the questions, so let's be fair and honest.

FT should have some sort of "neutral" forum for airline comparisons to avoid one-sided answers (although that doesn't apply to this thread).

AA F gets my vote, over BA J, not flown VS J so cannot comment.

Had a great flight to and from JFK on AA ( I never thought I would say that!!! )

AA F hands down! Nice suite (from what I can remember) although relatively old aircraft.

BA J - food cr*p, good seat

VS J - chavy CC

Not a journalist or doing research -- I have the option and was curious as to what people have experienced.

I've done all three, several times, and the answer to your question depends on what you want.

This is an overnight flight so I imagine you'll want to sleep as much as possible. VS has an excellent bed, with a flip-over mattress. The new BA Club seats are also fantastic, and I say this having very recently come off an overnight flight from JFK. AA F is good too, though the cushion is a bit thin.

Catering is really hit and miss. I've had good and bad on all three. AA is probably the underdog.

If you are up for a James Bond-type experience of drinking at the bar and chatting up quasi-hot flight attendants, you'll be happy on VS, BA might be ok, and AA will be like picking up your grandmother's friends.
