Unfortunately your balance is too low for a RTW award ticket. IMO, The best bargain for now is CO -- 160K/220K/280K for Y/C/F with little routing restriction.

I booked one with BIS over 50K miles, which exceeds the largest amount of miles AA RTW would allow.

if you really wanted to, you could book one way trips to make it a "RTW". It would take some planning. But of course it would be a challenge if you had to make any changes since there's multiple ticket/alliances involved.

How would it be to book a BA flight with multiple stopovers? Do RTWs require that you plan all of your flights ahead of time?

you'll have to be more specific...you know there's thousands if not hundreds of thousands of islands in the world.

With the miles you have.. you could do a simple RTW. Something like SF-Hong Kong-Bali-Middle East-Europe- USA. All in Coach.

Agreed..

The two airline/alliances point redemptions.. would mean two series of seperate itineraries..

So if a plane within one itinerary affects the other itinerary.. you would unfortunately be responsible for delays, change fees, etc.. for the other itinerary
