Countries that forbid bringing in pornography
I was browsing this forum and I couldnīt find a list of countries forbidding visitors from bringing pornography into the country; and what is the punishment if they do? commercial porn, of course.
Do some countries that ban pornography trough their airports gates allow it to be sold legally inside their countries? Does this paradox exist? I know itīs illegal to bring commercial porn into: 1.Indonesia 2.Bermuda ... Are this laws really enforced? I know in some countries pornography is not legal but itīs too common and is sold everywhere. You can write a note if that is the case for some of those countries. Whenever possible link to the official site that forbids it. Countries added to the list from forum members: 3. Singapore: not legal, and fines. Singapore Government 4. Malaysia 5. Vietnam 6. Philippines Philippine Bureau of Customs 7. United States: no obscene articles allowed. The customs declaration form used by CBP 8. Liberia? 9. Australia: Australia has a very strange policy. Itīs the only country in the world where you are asked about the porn you are carrying... you have to declare and if you lie you will pay for it. http://www.google.com/search?q=australia+porn+customs |

If this law really applies, why itīs a bit difficult to hear stories about this happening in the airport to people? Do you know any example? Why there is not a single case in this forum? |

I know only because I grew up there and travelled a lot as a child:
Singapore and Malaysia. Additionally, possessing more than a small quantity of drugs could also send you to a date with a hangman. |
With all the porn you could possibly want available free on the net, to me travelling and porn do not mix
DO not give anyone the excuse to get you in serious trouble. |

I couldnīt find any real live story about someone having problems due to this on the Internet. Is there any? This is bizarre.
... Unless, of course, you like to read stories about people getting caught and punished for smuggling p0rn. Now that would be truly bizarre. FWIW, I know someone who was held up for a day at a border crossing in Nicaragua in the 1980s because some people on the same bus were transporting pro-Contra literature (Haha "pro-contra"). He was interviewed and released after several tense hours. The folks with the pamphlets were denied entry. Not terribly thrilling, I know. |

I think you'd do better to check the most recent customs regulations of whatever country you're planning to visit and pack your bags accordingly.

So, let's say someone tells a story about getting reprimanded for carrying disallowed materials into one country or another. How does that help you? It may not be a country that you're planning to visit. The customs regulations of that country may have changed. The person telling the story might have been lucky to meet a lenient customs official. On the contrary, individuals' personal experiences are often more valuable, and reflect reality better, than the stated regulations or laws. |
